Mom's great flight adventure
My mom has always been a rather adventurous soul, always eager
to try something new and gain new experiences - as long as they were
"clean" and fell within the guidelines set forth by God in His Holy
Word. This amazing lady turned 80 years old earlier this month, and
to celebrate she decided to do something that she has always wanted
to do but never gotten around to: taking a ride in an airplane!
Yesterday morning my sister Helen drove mom, Cheria, Madison and me
to Tri-Cities Airport in Blountville, Tennessee to meet up with my
brother Glen and sister-in-law Tonnie. We were on a mission to get
mom on a plane and allow her to soar like an eagle over the beautiful East Tennessee
landscape, fulfilling a lifelong dream that had eluded her for way
too long. The following is a series of photographs taken during
her "great flight adventure"!
First, she eagerly climbed aboard the plane... |

| where she strapped herself in, put on her headphones, and got
down to business! |

| Shortly after takeoff she was treated to a gorgeous view of a
lazy, curving section of Boone Lake... |

| after which the plane soon reached its cruising altitude of 3,000 feet! |

| Before she knew it, mom was looking down on a true Mountain
Empire landmark: Bristol Motor Speedway - aka BMS - aka "The world's fastest
half mile"! |

| A few minutes later she took in this spectacular view of South Holston Lake, a
picturesque fresh-water lake that she had seen many times during her
lifetime - but never from 3,000 feet! |

| All too soon she discovered that her flight adventure was nearly
over as we approached the airport for what turned out to be a
picture-perfect landing. |

| After mom had disembarked from the plane, she took a few moments
to thank our wonderful pilot Amanda for her professionalism,
courtesy and eagerness to help her fulfill a lifetime dream! |

Mom had the time of her life on her great flight adventure. Now
in her eighth decade on planet earth, she has finally had the
opportunity to see some of the hills, "hollers", lakes and metro areas of
our beautiful region from a whole new perspective. Now that she has
yet another new
experience under her belt, I just wonder what she has on the
agenda for the next time around!
