Mom working on her new sidewalk

For some time now my mom has wanted to build a new section of
sidewalk so she and her guests could take a "shortcut" from her
driveway to the front porch without having to walk through the
garage. Well, yesterday she got her wish when several of us "kids
and grandkids" got together and got the job done.
Our family has always enjoyed doing things like this for mom and dad
because it gives us an opportunity to spend time with them (and each
other) while creating something that will make their lives just a little
better. Dad has now gone on to be with the Lord, but when he was on
the scene we could always count on receiving his sage advice and
close supervision as he sat on the porch and oversaw the project.
But mom has always been more of a hands-on type of person. She just
loves to jump right in with a hammer or shovel and do whatever she
can to help get the job done.
After all, she has spent the bulk of her eighty years on this planet
working hard at various jobs and in the home in order to raise her
children and grandchildren, and although her health won't allow her
to do nearly as much as she would like to do these days, she still
enjoys helping out on these little family projects whenever she can.
But for us, just having her with us is all the help we need.
