Mount Adams

Today's picture features the snow-capped visage of beautiful
Mount Adams, the second highest peak in the state of
Washington. The Pacific Northwest is famous for its stunning
scenery, and there is plenty of it to be found in the vicinity of
this gorgeous mountain!
Along with its better known "siblings"
Mount St. Helens and
Mt.
Rainier, Mount Adams is part of the
Cascade Volcanic Belt, a series
of
stratovolcanos in the
Cascades that make it one of North
America's most geologically interesting mountain ranges. Long ago,
the Pacific Northwest must surely have glowed a bright red during
the nighttime from all the molten lava flowing down the slopes of
multiple active volcanoes - a sight which would have delighted our
modern-day astronauts with their unique vantage points aboard the
Space Shuttle and the International Space Station.
Photographer Linda Dubose captured this beautiful image of Mount
Adams with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1, which at the time of its
introduction was the world's smallest 10x optical zoom digital
camera.
