The 17,508 islands which make up the archipelagic country of Indonesia are home to a large percentage of the world's active volcanoes, and today's picture features one of the most famous of them all: Mount Bromo. This statuesque peak is one of the island of Java's most popular tourist attractions, and with views like this it's easy to see why. Volcanoes have commanded the attention and respect of us humans ever since God first put us on this amazing planet. Their rumblings and eruptions of sulfuric gases, ash, and molten lava have instilled fear and awe in the minds of the world's inhabitants for millennia, but collectively they have also created some of the earth's most magnificent playgrounds and vistas.     Visitor Comments...
