Picture of the day -
June 24, 2008
Sunrise at Nags Head, North Carolina

Often when a photographer goes out to take some pictures he/she
has a particular shot in mind, and it isn't at all unusual for it to
take several attempts before everything falls into place for the
shot to come off as planned. Such was the case with today's picture.
Here are a few words from photographer Michelle Halliwell about her
tireless quest for this image:
"I’ve always tried to capture a photo like this over the years
but
either the sunrise wasn’t right or the birds weren’t in the
right
place. But finally in October 2007 while on our yearly
vacation in
Nags Head, North Carolina I was able to get this shot.
The three
pelicans flew by at just the right angle, height and
time."

This amazing image was captured with a Canon 40D Digital SLR equipped with a
Sigma 50-500mm zoom lens at the full 500mm focal length. Great job
Michelle!
