Today's picture features the stately Cathedral Church of Saint
Peter and Saint Paul, better known as the Washington National
Cathedral. Appropriately nicknamed the National House Of
Prayer, this beautiful Washington, DC landmark is the sixth
largest cathedral in the world and the place where our nation's
leaders often assemble for prayer and remembrance during times of
national grief.
The process of building the National Cathedral took a while.
Construction began way back in 1907, but due to a number of pauses
during times of limited funding the final finial wasn't put in place
until 1990. But the building has been well-used over the years on
numerous special occasions, including the funerals of Presidents
Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford.
The next time you're in our nation's capitol, why not pay a visit to
the National Cathedral? You'll find it standing majestically at the
intersection of Massachusetts and Wisconsin Avenues.
About the photo: Mr. Ron Hilton of Lake Ridge, Virginia took
today's picture on May 2 at approximately 10am. He captured the
image with a 10-22mm wide angle lens with the camera's ISO set to
100.
