A nosy squirrel peeking over a fence

Photo courtesy of Laura Shreck. Photographer Laura Shreck captured this image of a nosy squirrel sitting quietly on a fence, obviously paying close attention to the goings-on in the neighbor's yard. I always knew these rascally rodents were quite inquisitive, but you would think this "spy" could have found a way to be just a bit more discreet. Cheria and I have a number of squirrels that visit our yard on a regular basis, mostly to "harvest" the numerous black walnuts that fall to the ground every autumn. We don't mind of course, especially since the large walnuts covering the ground in several places make it difficult to mow the lawn. I just wish our furry friends would get every last one of them before the first mowing in the spring! We enjoy sitting at our dining room table where we can watch the squirrels play in the back yard. Sometimes there will be just one, other times there are three or four of them.
