Today's picture is a great example of the amazing creativity that
one can express thanks to the world of modern digital photography.
Here is photographer Gordon Brugman to tell us about it:
"One of the many great things about digital photography is the
ability
to get creative, both during and after the taking of the
image. One
fun post-processing techniques is called 'Out Of Bounds'
or OOB, in
which a photographic subject appears to actually come out
of its
'frame'. The 3D effect that results is useful with all sorts
of subjects.
Here, CSX Locomotive 724 emerges from a tunnel at Natural Tunnel
State Park in Virginia. A regular photograph has been 'OOBed' to
make it
appear the train has broken through the restraints of the
photographic
world and is chugging right into our own! Original
image taken with a
Nikon D40, OOB transformation in Photoshop CS4."

Extremely well executed OOB photo Gordon!! You have had many fine
photos here at TodaysPhoto.org, and IMHO, this in one of your best.
I have messed with OOB photos just a bit. It is time consuming and
you need to be pretty careful. Your efforts have been richly
rewarded here. I love it!

Superb photo Gordon! I too love playing around with OOBs, and have
shown many folks how to do it, but you have created one of the best
shots I've ever seen. Great original photo and great Photoshop work
done here!
Side note: I loved your article on
"Losing Your Focus, and Getting It Back Again".
