Palouse Falls

This past weekend, we took a drive out to Palouse Falls. It
is about 2 hours from Spokane, out in the middle of nowhere really.
We tried to go several weeks ago, but a failed water pump in our car
prevented that trip. We set out late Saturday morning and it was hot
out. The highest temp that we saw, that our car thermometer gave,
was 103 degrees. The trip was indeed worth it though. I was not able
to stay until the evening light, but I did the best I could with
what I had.
While I am not sure that I would agree with how these falls came
into existence, they are an incredible site to see! I think the
water flow has slowed down from earlier in the year. On April 21 of
this year, a man by the name of Tyler Bradt rode in his Kayak over
these falls and broke the world record. I cannot even imagine doing
that. Here is
a link that talks a bit about that.
The signs around the area announcing that rattlesnakes are frequent
visitors made me a bit nervous!! I took a walk around to one side of
the falls, and though not a strenuous walk at all, by the time I got
back to the picnic area I was having a bit of an issue with heat
exhaustion I think. I have never dealt with heat before, but it was
really hot out there. I do look forward to going back and viewing
this incredible place in nature on a bit cooler day.

A very good shot, Ron, especially for the mid-day light you had to
work with. I really like the depth in this photo, and the stark
contrast between the falls and the pool, and the almost barren
landscape around it. One of these days, I have to make it over there
to see this place... |
