A spectacular waterfall on Paradise River

Winston Rockwell.
Capturing the stunning beauty of a waterfall is one of the trickiest
tasks in photography, but as you can tell by looking at today's
picture photographer Winston Rockwell is quite an expert at it. Here
are a few words from him about this magnificent image:
"I went to Mt. Rainier National Park on Saturday, hoping to get
some good
photos of "The Mountain", as we call it here in Seattle.
At over
14,000 feet,
it's the dominant landscape feature in the
Puget Sound area, and
as such it usually
offers exceptional photo
opportunities. On this trip, however, the
sky was
too hazy, and
there was too much "stuff" in the air for good photos
of the
mountain, so I settled for some smaller landscape features.
Paradise River is a small, glacier-fed stream flowing down the
southwestern
slope of the mountain, growing all the way, until it
merges with the
much
larger Nisqually River farther downstream.
Here, though, near its headwaters, it's a small, rushing torrent
cascading and tumbling over
rocks, logs,
and small waterfalls,
offering those willing to venture along its
banks some
captivating
scenes.
This image was taken with a Canon 40D and a Tamron SP 17-35
lens at
17mm, shot at 1/3 second @ f/22 with a polarizer to help
slow the
shutter
to add a soft, almost dreamlike look to the water."
