Picture of the day - November 19, 2008
The beautiful skyline of Pittsburgh, PA

When many of us think of the city of
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, it's
history as a major "steel" town and its status as a powerhouse in
the world of professional sports immediately come to mind. But as
today's picture by photographer Tom Brenholts clearly shows,
Pittsburgh's striking skyline makes it one of the most beautiful
cities in the world as well. Here is Mr. Brenholts with a few words
about the image:
"This photograph was taken from the Duquesne Incline on Mount
Washington on a waning afternoon in early November. Pittsburgh
is
such a rewarding subject; she is always showing off for her
guests!
This is my home town, and my heart wells up with pride
every time I
visit. I'm a novice; each exposure is still a classroom
exercise for
me. My goal with each shot is to get the settings
correct and the
shot as well framed as I can, and the city obliged
me by standing
perfectly still and waiting for me.
I captured this image with a
Canon 40D, EF-S 17-55 at 21mm,
handheld, 1/80 sec @ f/11 (gotta love
that IS), ISO 100."

I too was born and raised in Pittsburgh. It's wonderful to see her
beauty being featured here for all the world to see! Great job Tom!

I never knew that Pittsburgh was such a lovely place. I grew up
watching the Pirates and Steelers on TV, but they rarely showed any
scenery outside the stadium. I think I've found a new wallpaper for
my computer.

I really like today’s picture of Pittsburgh!! I have never been
there and likely never will be, but this gives me about the best
view of this city that I have ever seen. Mr. Brenholts did a great
job with this picture!! It is so sharp and full of detail. It is
very nice indeed.

That is a fantastic photograph capturing the true beauty of
Pittsburg. I used to travel there often to visit friends. What a
sight it was when approached from the west. It was 4 hrs. of looking
at mountains and hills coming from Buffalo. Then you'd go through a
long mountain tunnel and when you emerged, bingo! That view of
Pittsburg sprung out as if you were just discovering some oasis-
hidden behind the mountains.
You really nailed that one Tom! Great photo. Maybe you could share a
night shot from there too! I remember the lights were spectacular. |
