Planting rice in the shadow of Mount Fuji

Craig Hansen.
Today's picture features yet another view of Mount Fuji that's quite different
from what we're used to seeing. Photographer Craig Hansen
captured this intriguing image of the snow-capped peak reflecting in
a rice paddy as a woman busily plants her precious crop. Since Mount
Fuji is probably the most recognizable mountain in the world and
rice is eaten by more people on the planet than any other food
product, it seems fitting to somehow feature them in the same
photograph.
Mr. Hansen has managed to take some of the most beautiful and interesting
photos of Japan, Mount Fuji and other places around the world that
you'll ever see, and he invites you to
visit his gallery and check them out. The following is his story
behind today's intriguing image:
"Much of the rice farming today in Japan is done by machines,
but
the machines can't do a perfect job so the final touches
(as in this
case) are done by hand.
This photo was taken in a small village on the north side of Mount
Fuji. It was a beautiful day in May and the peak was covered with
a
fresh layer of snow, which is quite unusual for so late in the
season. I used a CPL filter here to enhance the reflections in the
mud."
