A Post "Growing" Out Of A Tree

Picture of a post growing out of a maple tree.

A few days ago, Cheria, Olivia and I visited Cheria's Uncle Charles and Aunt Doris in Damascus, Virginia. It was a beautiful fall afternoon, so we spent several minutes getting the "grand tour" of their property. As we were walking around their yard, I noticed what appeared to be an old fence post growing out of the side of a huge maple tree. I asked Charles about it, and he told me the tree had simply "grown around" the post over the years.

I grew up in a rural area with plenty of barbed wire fences, and I have seen numerous trees that had "grown around" a fence that had been stapled to it many years before. But never in my life had I seen a tree grow around a post! But sure enough, this one had. And as that old maple tree grew it must have squeezed the post tighter and tighter because it's stuck there just like it's an actual branch of the tree!

God has provided lots of unusual and interesting places and things for us to "discover" if we take the time to venture off the beaten path and explore this wonderful globe that He has blessed us with, and sometimes we need only to venture into someone else's yard to find one of them!
