Did you know that there are times when you can stand out in your
back yard and actually see four of our solar system's planets plus
the Moon with your naked eyes alone? Well, that is indeed the case,
and in today's picture photographer Steve Baldwin has captured one
of those magnificent "predawn lineups" for our enjoyment. Here
are a few words from Mr. Baldwin about the image:
"In the Eastern sky, just before dawn on February 23, 2009 are
top
to bottom, a crescent Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Mars. Taken
from
Auckland, New Zealand." --Steve Baldwin
The camera and settings used to capture this image:
Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Focal length: 70mm
Shutter speed: 3 seconds
Aperture: f/5.0
ISO: 160
Well, there you have it - four planets and the Moon (the fourth
planet is Earth of course, seen in the foreground).

I photographed this "predawn lineup" as well, but none of my
exposures turned out anywhere near as good as this one. Fine job
indeed Mr. Baldwin!
