The magnificent Queen Elizabeth 2

The
Queen Elizabeth 2 is one of the world's most well-known
and beloved ocean liners. She has served her crew and passengers
well throughout her 39 year lifetime, but now the time has come for
her to retire from her duties on the open sea and spend the rest of
her days serving as a luxurious floating hotel.
Photographer John McLeish captured this beautiful image of the QE2,
and he offered these words about it:
"This is a photograph of the Queen Elizabeth 2 taken on October
5,
2008. This magnificent ship was built in the shipyards of the
Clyde,
and yesterday the QE2 returned to her roots where thousands
turned out to bid a fond farewell to the grand old lady of the seas.
The QE2 was built by the John Brown shipyard at Clydebank 41
years
ago. She has clocked up more than 5.6 million nautical miles
since
her nerve-racking launch in the upper reaches of the Clyde,
where
careful calculations were made to ensure that there was
enough room
for the 70,237-ton liner to slip into the water.
Greenock is now as
far as she can get up the Clyde, since dredging
ended in 1990.
Greenock was the latest stop-off on a goodbye tour
of the British
Isles before the ship heads for retirement in Dubai."
