Picture of the Day - May 29, 2009
"Red Fox"

Kevin Simpson.
Having lived most of my life in the country, I am quite used to
seeing many species of wildlife in their natural habitat. But the
only way that many of our friends and neighbors will ever get to see
most of God's wonderful "wild" creatures is through the magic of
photography. Today's picture by photographer Kevin Simpson is a
rather fine example, and the following is his story behind the image:
"A good friend of mine who is an avid hunter and taxidermist in
the
Laurel Highlands of western Pennsylvania recently guided me to a
Red Fox
den. It was the first opportunity I have had to photograph
this type
of wildlife. If you're like myself, you've seen foxes running
across
the
road, but I had never observed them right in front of
me. We
think
we were able to identify five pups to this litter. It's
something
I'll
remember for the rest of my days."
