The year 2006 marked the Sesquicentennial of the beautiful
and historic twin cities of Bristol, TN-VA, and a year-long series
of concerts and special events celebrating the illustrious occasion
was capped off last evening by a wonderful performance by the multi-Grammy award
winning group
Riders In
The Sky.
Riders In The Sky began delighting audiences with their unique blend
of western music and comedy in 1977, and since then they have been
working virtually non-stop with over 5,200 performances under their
famous cowboy belts. These very talented performers have managed to
successfully revitalize the musical genre made famous by western
legends such as Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, and the Sons of the
Pioneers, a genre that all but died right along with the popularity
of the western-style movies that spawned it.
Last night, Riders In The Sky added yet another notch to their belts
by bringing their highly entertaining act to the stage of Bristol's
Paramount Center For The Arts. For the better part of two hours
they strolled around among cacti and armadillos while delighting
the audience with their perfect harmonies and side-splitting comedy.
It was a great night of entertainment and laughter that reminded
everyone in attendance of Bristol's own proud
musical heritage. It was a fitting end to a great year of
celebration, and a wonderful time was had by all!
