Fall colors at Roan Mountain State Park

Halston Pitman.
Roan Mountain comes alive with color twice each year, once in the
spring when the magnificent rhododendrons burst into bloom and again
in the autumn when the fall foliage turns the mountain and
surrounding woodlands into a stunningly colorful mosaic. In today's
picture, photographer Halston Pittman managed to capture the autumn
beauty of Roan Mountain in all its spectacular glory, and the
following is the story behind the image:
"This photo was taken on Friday October 17th around 2pm. I was
camping with some of my BMW friends and we were enjoying the
scenery
and driving through thick fog. I noticed as we came out of
the fog
we were in a clearing that was exceptionally clear. About
1,000
yards down the road was more thick fog. I had to stop the
cars, get
out and setup for a good capture!
I love this shot and it is my
first real landscape photography. I
normally am always shooting cars
or motorsports but I could not
pass on this opportunity! The results
were more than I could hope
for." --Halston Pitman
