Roanoke River Marshes Lighthouse

Michelle Halliwell.
Photographer Michelle Halliwell captured today's beautiful image of
the Roanoke River Marshes Lighthouse. You can see a lot more of her
spectacular images in
her
gallery. The following is Michelle's story behind today's
picture:
"One of my favorite subjects to photograph are lighthouses, and I
in
particular enjoy the ones located along the Outer Banks of North
Carolina where my fiancé (who is also a photographer) and I often
go for mini-vacations.
This photo was taken on the evening of September 25th 2004 during
the dedication of this replica in downtown Manteo, NC. Taken with a
Canon 20D and 18-125 Tamron, 30 sec. exposure on F22. The replica
is
an exterior reproduction of the 1877 Roanoke Marshes lighthouse.
There were originally three lighthouses named RMLH and two were
screwpiles. The first one was in the marsh and was 1831-1839 and
no information has been located as to it's style. The second one
was a hexagonal lighthouse and was 1858-1877. The third one (the
one the town based the replica on) was 1877-1955. More information
can be found here on the
Outer Banks Lighthouse Society’s webpage
which actively supports all North Carolina Lighthouses."
