Raindrops on a rose blossom

Now that fall is upon us, most of the roses in our back yard have
dried up and withered away. But a couple of blossoms are still alive
and well, apparently defying the change of seasons by holding out
until the first really hard frost turns the lawn and everything in
it silvery white. Roses are among the most beautiful flowers on the
planet, and I'm very happy that these particular blossoms have
decided to hang around for a while!
Our neck of the woods received a very welcome rain last night, and
while I was out walking the dog yesterday morning I noticed that our
pair of stubborn rose blossoms were absolutely covered with
raindrops. When the task at hand was finished, I grabbed my camera
and ran outside to take a few pictures before the sun began to dry
everything off - and the result is today's picture.
Here in the Appalachians, the arrival of fall usually means that the
hills and forests will soon be set ablaze as the leaves turn various
shades of red, orange and purple, but this year the "forecast" is
for a fairly blah "leaf-peeping" season. I hope that forecast is
wrong, but even if it isn't, Cheria and I will still have a couple
of very pretty rose blossoms to look at from time to time...at least
until Jack Frost comes along and sends them to that great rose
garden in the sky!
