View Of San Francisco From Alcatraz Island

During their recent trip to California, Amy and
Gene
visited Alcatraz, the infamous maximum security prison located on
Alcatraz Island in the middle of San Francisco Bay. Back in its
heyday, just the thought of being sent to Alcatraz sent
chills up the spines of even the most hardened criminals.
Life
on any island can leave one feeling isolated and abandoned, and that
goes double for Alcatraz. While the guards and service personnel
could come and go with the changing of their shifts, the prisoners
were stuck on Alcatraz day-in and day-out, many of them for the rest
of their lives.
But what made life on Alcatraz so miserable was the fact that the
San Francisco shoreline was so close by that on cool nights the
prisoners could actually hear laughter and music coming from the
seemingly-exuberant people living and working just across the bay.
About the photo:
During their visit to Alcatraz Island, Gene and Amy explored the
ruins and grounds of the former prison. They also took today's
picture which depicts the same torturous view of the beautiful San
Francisco shoreline that the prisoners had to endure every day of
their lives while in confinement. Freedom lay so close across the
waters of the bay, but although there were several escape attempts
made over the years, not even one of them was a confirmed success.
