Picture of the day - October 17, 2007

Is this the world's largest scarecrow?

Photo of a gigantic scarecrow in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Today's picture features the largest scarecrow I have ever seen, and I've sure seen a bunch of them over the years. Cheria's uncle Bob Cook and his lovely wife Lorraine spent last week camping in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and while they were out and about enjoying the scenery and attractions they just happened to run across this larger-than-life "guy".

To gain a little perspective on his size, take a look at the pumpkins and the roll of hay. Also notice how his knee appears to be about the same height as the edge of the porch roof and his right hand is almost on a plane with the top of the gable window roof. And that's with him lying in a reclining position! Now that's one big scarecrow!

To be sure, October is the month of ghosts and goblins, hay bales and pumpkins, witches, black cats and scarecrows...and if this smiling fellow doesn't belong in the record books I'd sure like to see one that does!
