Picture of the day - November 22, 2008
Winter arrives early in the Mountain Empire

Photo Rick Rouse.
The first "official" day of winter is still a month away, but that
didn't stop a bitter blast of wintry weather from barreling into the
Mountain Empire a couple of nights ago. I climbed out of bed
yesterday morning and peeked out the window only to discover that
the ground was covered with snow and the outside temperature was
just a degree or two above miserable. But the snow sure was pretty!
Hoping to capture a decent image of our newly-minted winter
wonderland, Cheria and I hopped in the car and drove over to nearby
Emory & Henry College. The Emory campus is always quite beautiful
with a blanket of snow covering it, but the powers that be had
apparently decided to cut a number of the large trees that gave the
campus its park-like atmosphere.
Since there were tree stumps and ugly debris from the "cut timber"
virtually everywhere we looked, we decided to just get back in the
car and head on home. But before we had even left the campus I
spotted the scene featured in today's picture. This little log cabin
was sitting in a snow-covered field behind Emory's historic
Buchanan-Blakemore House.

Hi Rick,
Your picture today is a really pretty winter scene. It is all to
reminding though of what is heading our way. They say that we may
get a skiff of the white stuff tonight. Thanks for sharing this
picture. Winter does produce some very nice scenes to capture.
