Picture of the day -
August 19, 2007 "Spirit Island"

Elisabeth Ann Gay.
I have been publishing the "Picture of the Day" for almost three
years now, and during that time I have seen a lot of amazing photos
of some of the world's most beautiful places. I have also become
acquainted with the work of some of the most gifted photographers in
the business, and I must say that Elisabeth Ann Gay ranks right up
there with the best of them.
Ann has the ability to capture any type of scene in a way that makes
it seem almost surreal, yet so life-like that you know it has to be
authentic. There are no average photos in
her galleries - they are
all simply superb! Today's stunning picture of the magnificent
Canadian landscape is a fine example of her work,
and the following is a little background info on the image:
"Spirit Island is located on Maligne Lake, Jasper National Park,
Alberta.
It was so named by a photographer in the 1930's, who took a
Black &
White image of the island, and submitted it to a Kodak
contest in New
York. He won first prize and was asked to give the
image a title. He
chose Spirit Island, as he said the image, to him,
embodied the spirit
of the Canadian Rockies." --Elisabeth Ann Gay
