With today's picture, frequent contributor Ron Trees brings us yet
another wonderful sample of the incredible beauty of the Pacific
Northwest. The following is his story behind the image:
"On my home from work since the time change to DST, I have
been
able to get a beautiful view of the Spokane River, and the
snow
covered mountains in the background, when crossing on
the bridge
that crosses it. I have tried several times to photograph
it and
have not really come up with anything I was happy with.
A few people
suggested trying HDR, so I tried some HDR software
called
Photomatix. WOW, it kind of brought the pictures to life.
When using this software, you use a tripod and your camera in a
bracketing mode. You take three pictures of the same scene at
three
different exposures and then combine them in the HDR
software. The
results have been pretty surprising to me. HDR
can make photos
appears to be a bit surreal, but I am trying
to use it to help the
viewer of the photo see what my eyes did!
I hope that the viewers
here enjoy the photo. A few more of
the images can be viewed
here."

HDR photography is at the cutting edge of digital imaging, and Mr.
Trees has used it to great effect here. The process can be used to
produce images that range from very detailed realism (as in Mr.
Trees wonderful image here) to the fantastic and almost surreal. Mr.
Trees image displays the beauty of HDR imagery, capturing wonderful
detail in all areas of the scene, from the sullen, moody sky to the
river’s rock strewn shoreline. Great job, Ron!

What a great photo today by Ron Trees! I was trying to think of a
word that best described the scene when I saw 'surreal" in the
article. I was thinking it looked like a fine gallery painting from
one of the old masters. Great photo here Ron, as well as the others
you gave links to.

I'll tell you right off the bat I absolutely HATE HDR images -
UNLESS they are done correctly. Mr. Trees, you have NAILED this one.
Simply outstanding!!!
