A Spooky Southwestern Virginia Sunrise

Over the years I have featured a number of spectacular sunrises as
"Pictures of the Day", and this one is among my favorites. Cheria's
uncle Bob Cook captured this wonderful image early yesterday morning
as a veil of fog partially obscured the rising sun just enough to
cast the foreground into a deep, spooky shadow.
If you're one of those folks who tend to get up around sunrise, you
have no doubt witnessed the gradual transformation from night to
day. First, you begin to see just a very slight glow on the eastern
horizon. Then, as the minutes pass by, the glow quickly gets brighter and brighter until the eastern sky becomes painted with one
or more spectacular colors as the sun makes its way above the
horizon. At some point during that process, there will be just
enough light to create eerie silhouettes of objects in the
foreground...and so it was with today's picture.
I'm often up and at 'em when the sun comes up, and I love watching
the sky and landscape come to life with the dawn of a new day. You
just never know exactly what you'll see when God begins to paint his
next early morning masterpiece, but I always know that it won't be
boring - and every new day He gives us is a true gift!
