A Squirrel Visiting Our Front Yard

Cheria and I are blessed to have quite a variety of regular
backyard visitors. On most any given day we can peek out our back door
and see several species of wild birds, ducks, possums, groundhogs, and
other animals. Besides the birds, our most frequent visitors seem to
be a
number of grey squirrels that scurry into our back yard in order to
gather up the hundreds of black walnuts that fall to the ground
every fall.
Since virtually all of our walnut trees are in the back yard and
along the creek bank, the squirrels tend to confine their activities
to those areas. It is a rare occasion indeed when we spot one of them
in our front yard, but when I pulled into our driveway the other day
I saw the cute little rodent featured in today's picture perched high
off the ground in
one of our recently topped maple trees.
Instead of running away, my furry friend just sat there with an
inquisitive look on his face while I reached inside the car and grabbed my camera. After firing off
a few shots, I went into the house to give him an opportunity to
make his getaway. He (she?) quickly scampered down out of the tree
and took off for the back yard to rejoin the other squirrels on their
endless quest for walnuts. And why not? We have plenty and they're
welcome to gather all they want!
