Picture of the day -
June 23, 2007 Starr's Mill

Kyle Burdg.
The North American continent has thousands of rivers and streams,
each carrying a seemingly endless flow of life-sustaining water on
its long journey from the headwaters to the sea. As European
settlers moved westward, they built villages and towns all across
the heartland wherever it was convenient to do so, and more often
than not they chose to build near a river or large stream. And as a
practical matter, one of the first buildings usually
constructed in every new town was a grist mill.
Although most of them are now long gone, a number of those historic
old mills still stand beside rivers, streams and mill ponds all
across the country, and one of them is featured in today's picture.
Starr's Mill is located in Fayetteville, Georgia, a scenic
suburb of the capitol city of Atlanta. This beautiful old mill is
one of the area's most photographed structures.
Photographer Kyle Burdg captured this tranquil scene at
approximately 8:00pm one evening just as the sun was going down. You
can see more pictures of Starr's Mill as well as a number of other
interesting subjects when you
