Sunset at Stony Creek Park

Nick Sadowski.
Watching the sun slip below the horizon amidst a sea of spectacular
colors is one of the most soothing experiences we humans are blessed
with, and photographer Nick Sadowski has managed to capture the very
essence of that beauty in today's picture. Here is his story behind
this extraordinary image:
"With the warm air finally embracing Southeastern Michigan, local
parks become hot spots for family and friends to gather and spend
some quality time together. It also provides an opportunity for
photographers to capture spectacular late-spring sunsets such as
this one!
As with many landscape shots, this was taken during the “Magic
Hour”
as the sun was setting on the horizon. The boulders provided
me with
an interesting foreground object, with the deck beckoning
the viewer
on towards the warmth of the setting sun.
I took this shot at Stony Creek Metro Park in Shelby Township,
MI
on May 24th, 2008 with my Canon EOS 5D digital SLR and
16-35mm
f/2.8 lens. The shot was taken at a focal length of 17mm,
f/10,
Tv- 1/2sec, ISO- 100. To balance the dynamic range of the
skyline
and foreground I employed a 3-stop graduated neutral density
filter
and to help with reflections on the water I also used a
circular
polarizer. The long shutter speed also gave a misty
appearance to
the otherwise calm water.” --Nick Sadowski

Hi Rick,
I have seen very many beautiful pictures on your site now, But Mr.
Sadowski's is one of the very nicest I have seen. It is exquisite! I
also like that he included the equipment used to take the picture. I
have been trying to get some sunset pictures. It sounds like I need
a graduated neutral density filter. Awesome work Mr. Sadowski!!
