Picture of the Day - August 8, 2009
Tiger Swallowtail

Butterflies are among the most beautiful sights of summer, but some
years we see more of them than others. Today's picture by
photographer Doug McAbee features a gorgeous Tiger Swallowtail harvesting
nectar from an equally beautiful flower blossom. Here are a few
words from Mr. McAbee about the photo:
"Butterflies have been
scarce to none in this region due to thunder-
storms, heavy rains and
high winds. This photo features my first
Tiger Swallowtail butterfly
of the season." --Doug McAbee

Spectacular image Mr. McAbee. Such intricate detail in both the
butterfly and the flower.
