Taughannock Falls

Like a spectacular sunset, there is something about a waterfall that has the power to calm the
nerves and melt away the cares of the day. Is it the mesmerizing
flow of the water as it tumbles from the precipice above, falls
freely through the air and
splashes into the sparkling pool below? Is it the peaceful
sound of the white noise that accompanies the deluge? Whatever the reasons
for their calming powers, few things in nature are more loved or photographed more often than the
world's waterfalls.
Today's picture by photographer Brhum Bhatia features New York's
Taughannock Falls, one of North America's "tallest"
waterfalls with an astounding 215 foot vertical drop. Located in
popular Taughannock Falls State Park, this simple, yet amazingly
beautiful cataract is one of the most-visited waterfalls in the
entire United States. Here are a few words from Mr. Bhatia about the
image:
"Taughannock Falls is located in Ulysses, New York. The entire area
known as
"Finger Lakes" offers spectacular waterfalls, great hiking
and
wonderful scenery. This particular waterfall is at the end of a
fairly simple hike in
Taughannock
Falls State Park. I don't often carry
my
tripod with me, but on this occasion, knowing that we were aiming
to
end up at the waterfall, I thought it was a worthy 'overhead' and I
feel this shot justifies the effort involved. I hope you enjoy it."
