Psalm 92:1 - "IT IS A GOOD THING TO GIVE THANKS UNTO THE LORD,
AND
TO SING PRAISES UNTO THY NAME, O MOST HIGH:"
Today is Thanksgiving, a special day on which most of us
will be able to sit down with our family and
friends and enjoy a scrumptious meal while fellowshipping with one
another and reminiscing about old times. Here in southwestern Virginia,
the woods are filled with hunters looking to bag a magnificent buck or
bring home a
squirrel or two while countless television sets are alive with the
sights and sounds of a football game. Perhaps the festivities are a
bit different in your neck of the woods, but I'm guessing that a
good time is being had by all just the same.
When it comes right down to it, Thanksgiving is a time for sharing
love and spending time with those we care about the most. But most
of all, this special day is about giving thanks to God for all of
the blessings that He has given us throughout the year and
throughout our lifetimes. And of course the most precious blessing
of them all is the wonderful Gift of Life that His loving Son made
available to all of us over 2,000 years ago by laying down His life and
shedding His blood on the cross at Calvary as atonement for our
sins.
As you go about enjoying this special day, I hope you have a
wonderful time being with your loved ones, but most of
all I hope you'll stop for a few moments to do what this day was set
aside for in the first place: sending up to Heaven a heartfelt
prayer of thanks to our loving and merciful Creator and our blessed
Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ.
