The incredible beauty of a Toronto snowfall

It's no big secret that our friends and neighbors up north get more than
their fair share of wintry weather, and today's picture by
photographer Alex Rechetov certainly bears that out.
Much of Canada's massive land mass is a vast wilderness that is a
literal winter wonderland for much of the year. Many species of
wildlife and a relative handful of hardy humans live and survive in
the midst of some of the planet's most beautiful, yet most unforgiving
territory. But there is a lot more to this scenic country than just
the remote and frigid interior...
Canada also happens to be the home of a number of the world's great
cities, one of which is the setting for today's picture. The
following is a short message from the photographer about this
stunning image of a snow-covered Toronto:
"This photo was taken on January 1st, 2008 following a snowstorm
that hit Toronto on New Year's Eve just before midnight. It displays
a snow-covered courtyard on the west side of the University College
building on the University of Toronto campus." --Alex Rechetov
