Tree And Horse Beside The Virginia Creeper Trail

Yesterday evening just before sundown, Cheria, Tami and I took a
leisurely walk on the
Virginia Creeper Trail in order to try out Cheria's new Canon
Powershot S3 IS digital camera. We had enjoyed a very nice, sunny day
for a change in the Abingdon area, and we expected to find several
very pretty scenes with which to put the camera through its paces.
And so we did...
The Abingdon section of the Creeper Trail passes right through the
middle of a huge horse farm, and there were several horses and young
foals grazing in the pasture fields on both sides of us as we passed
through. One horse in particular caught Tami's eye as it dined on a
bale of hay resting under a large tree. She asked Cheria to take a
picture of it, and she did even though it was quite some distance
away from us. The result was the wonderful silhouette featured in
today's picture.
Although it's a lot different from her trusty old Kodak Z7590, we're
very pleased with Cheria's new Powershot S3 IS. Thanks to image
stabilization, she is able to hand-hold the Canon and still use its 12X
zoom lens to "reach out" and capture scenes that would have required
a tripod in order to avoid blurring with the Kodak. We have found it
to be a very nice camera that takes pictures that rival those from
my low-end Nikon digital SLR! Of course it helps to have spectacular
scenery to photograph, and we always find plenty of it waiting for
us every time we go for a walk on the Virginia Creeper Trail!
