Picture of the day -
June 20, 2007 Trillium Falls

Patrick Torres.
As regular visitors to this site well know, I'm particularly fond of
waterfall photos, and today's picture features one of the best ones
I have ever seen. Photographer Patrick Torres apparently put his
finely-honed photography skills to good use while capturing this
stunning image of California's Trillium Falls. The following
is his story behind the image:
This photo was taken Memorial Day weekend 2005 in Redwood
National and State Park in Northern California. It was in the
afternoon and we were looking for a short hike in the guidebook
we
had with us. Trillium Falls seemed to fit the bill, and it was
a
quick and easy hike in from the Elk Meadow wetland area off
of
Highway 101.
The scene when I arrived at the falls blew me away. The light
streaks through the ferns, the moss-covered rocks and branches,
the
soothing sound of the cool water, the leaf on the rock...
Many
thanks are owed to my girlfriend who patiently waited while
I
attempted multiple shots from multiple locations with different
camera settings.
