Tulip Poplar Blossom

(Click on the photo for a larger view)
The Tulip Poplar is a rather large tree that is native to the
eastern United States, and here in the Appalachian Mountains of
Virginia they can be found growing in great numbers (and to great
heights) in many of our local woodlands. These poplars are highly
sought after for their lumber, but they are also quite beautiful when
standing tall in the forest.
Every spring the tulip poplars burst into bloom with scores of very
colorful tulip-like blossoms like the one shown in today's picture.
Photographer Doug McAbee took this wonderful photograph using the
following camera and settings:
Camera: Sony DSC-H5
Focal length: 72mm
Shutter speed: 1/800 second
Aperture: f/4
ISO: 125

I remember these poplar blossoms well from my childhood in eastern
Kentucky. This is a very nice picture, and it sure does bring back
some wonderful memories. My thanks to the photographer and to the
owner of this wonderful site for sharing it with us.
