A Mini Waterfall On Beaver Dam Creek

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the
earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the
face of
the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of
the waters." Genesis 1:1-2
Water is the basic building block of life as we know it, and "in the
beginning" God placed an abundance of it on our planet for the
sustenance and enjoyment of the living creatures that He would soon
speak into existence. In fact, when He first created the earth it
was completely covered with water - there wasn't even a single tiny
island to be found anywhere on the face of the globe.
"And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together
unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so."
Genesis 1-9
On God's command, the waters of the mighty ocean that had covered
the entire planet instantly parted. Dry land appeared, and all of a
sudden the earth had continents and islands and mountains and
valleys and seashores - God had provided a habitat for us humans and
the rest of His creatures to live and enjoy.
"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and
let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl
of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over
every
creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created
man in
his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and
female
created he them." Genesis 1:26-27
Ever since that miraculous "beginning", water has been one of our
most precious resources, and I guess that's why I have always been
so fascinated by it. As a child, I loved playing in the creek and
going swimming, and I can still remember the day I got to see the
ocean for the first time. The water seemed to have no end - it was
just wave after wave as far as my young eyes could see! Of course at
the time I had no concept of just how large the oceans really were,
but I did know that God must have put them here for a reason. Now I
realize that He put them here to support life!
Even though I'm now an adult, I have never lost my fascination with
water. I still love the ocean, and I still love to walk beside a
creek as the flowing water makes its way to the sea. Thanks to
gravity, unless it is frozen water will always flow downhill until
it reaches the lowest point along its path. And thanks to the Good
Lord we have an abundance of water to keep us alive and well as we
live our lives upon the earth which He spoke into existence so long
ago...
But as important as water is to us, there is another kind of water
that is even more important:
"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall
never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a
well of water springing up into everlasting life." John 4:14
Jesus offered the "woman at the well" a drink of the living water,
and she accepted it...a simple act that changed her life forever
through Jesus' infinite grace and mercy. And that same living water
is still available today, and it's completely free to all who will
accept it. Living water is even more abundant than the liquid
variety, giving eternal life to each and every one of us who drink
of it.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting
life.
John 3:16
Jesus Himself dug the precious well of living water by laying down His
life on the cross at Calvary. He has already done the hard part for
us - all we have to do is draw from the well and drink.
"And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be
saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31
That one verse sums it all up. In order to be saved (drink of the
living water), all we have to do is believe that Jesus Christ is
the Son of the living God, and that He died on the cross at Calvary
only to rise again in three days. The grave had no power over our
Saviour, and anyone who accepts His gift of grace and mercy needn't
fear it either.
About the photo: The other day I drove over to the
Backbone Rock National Recreation Area to take a picture of a
"mini waterfall" that I remembered seeing during a visit last
summer, but before I got to it I came upon
this
scene. After stopping to take some pictures of the icicles, I
continued on to my intended destination where I took the "Picture of
the Day".
