A colorful Waxeye enjoying an early morning meal

Photo of a waxeye eating from a rata tree.

Today's picture comes all the way from New Zealand, one of the most interesting and beautiful places on planet earth. Photographer Jenny Rollo encountered this lovely waxeye while it was enjoying a scrumptious meal courtesy of some gorgeous rata blossoms. The following is her story behind the image:
"This photograph of a waxeye eating from a rata tree (both New
Zealand natives) was taken early in the morning. These colorful
birds are quite small and they move very quickly, so the image
isn't as quite as sharp as I'd have liked, but I love the contrast in
colour between the bird and the flower."
    --Jenny Rollo
I have never had the pleasure of visiting New Zealand, but I have seen enough photographs of her magnificent landscapes and exotic wildlife to make me long to go there someday. For now, I'll simply continue enjoying the beauty and majesty of this amazing country through the lenses of wonderful photographers like Jenny.
