A Dripping-Wet Iris Blossom

Winston
Rockwell.
The
iris is one of the prettiest flowers in the world. A sure
sign of spring, the glorious presence of these colorful blossoms
tends to lift my spirit and make me want to sing right along with
the robins. Frequent contributor Winston Rockwell submitted this
wonderful photo of a beautiful white iris blossom, still dripping wet
after a much-needed watering. Here is his story behind the image:
"I went to the local botanical garden to deliver some photos, and
decided to take a stroll through the grounds while I was there.
They'd just watered the plants, and though most of the flowers
are
not in bloom right now - the early varieties have come and
gone, and
the late summer ones have yet to blossom - I did find
this lovely
iris growing near the edge of a pond at the bottom of
a small
landscaped waterfall.
There was a slight breeze, so the light
alternated between filtered
sun and shade as the tree branches moved
overhead, and I caught
this shot in a moment of "just right"
lighting. The water droplets
look like little jewels, and the image
seems to say, "spring is here,
life is good!"
I shot this photo with my Canon 30D and Sigma EX 80-400 lens
at
225mm, 1/500 @ f5.6."
