September 5, 2007 Ever feel like you just don't know which way to turn?

Do you ever feel like you just don't which way to turn? Well, signs
like this one sure aren't much help! One of my biggest pet peeves is
to be following directions to an address in an unfamiliar city only
to find that half of the streets aren't marked by signs - and more
often than not the street I'm looking for is one of them!
Last week Cheria and I visited our daughter Amy at her new home in
South Carolina, and before we embarked on our journey Cheria printed
out what appeared to be a very detailed set of directions that
surely would take us right to Amy's front door. But lo and behold,
when we took the designated exit from I-77 and began searching for
the streets we needed to take in order to make it to our
destination, we discovered that many of the streets were completely
unmarked - and the fact that it was dark outside didn't help matters
either! We did eventually find our way to Amy's place, but for a
while there it was looking a bit iffy.
Sometimes I wonder why towns and cities don't bother to mark all of
their streets or fail to fix obvious errors in signage, but I
suppose it's probably a budget issue... they like it when
out-of-towners have to fill up at a local gas station (and pay local
taxes) because they wasted all of their gas looking for a road sign!
