"Butterfly in repose"

Well, I guess you could say this is "flying insect week" on
TodaysPhoto.org since I have featured a hornets' nest, a dragonfly,
and now two butterflies in the past 6 days. Oh well, this picture by
photographer Rick Ellis was just too good to pass up! Here are a few
words from Mr. Ellis about the image:
"I saw this little lady resting on a leaf and began to take
photos.
With each successive frame I carefully moved a bit closer
for a
better image. This is the best of the series. After some
research
it turns out that I photographed a White Cabbage Butterfly.
It is
the most recognizable in the Pieridae family."

Interesting photo. I would have thought this little critter was a
moth rather than a butterfly. Great shot!

Well done Mr. Ellis.

Wonderful shot. I photograph many of the butterflies that visit my
flower garden each year, and today's picture is the best one I've
seen of the White Cabbage.
