Wind Turbine - Wellington, New Zealand
With gasoline prices now at around $4 per gallon, many Americans are
calling for the expansion of exploration and drilling activities
within our own borders in an effort to "wean" ourselves from our
habit of imported oil. But I believe we also need to step up efforts
to develop and perfect alternative energy sources such as solar,
geothermal, nuclear and wind power.
Today's picture by photographer Andrew Petrie features a Wellington,
New Zealand wind turbine, one of many around the world that have
been constructed in recent years for the purposes of research and/or
power generation. Our Creator has blessed us with a number of
natural resources from which we can derive the power we need to fuel
our busy lives and economies, and wind turbines such as this one are
among the most feasible to date.
A sound energy policy needn't concentrate on one or two energy
sources while avoiding all the others. In my opinion the nations of
the world (including the U.S.) should do a lot more to extract their
own fossil fuels from mother earth while simultaneously spending
whatever it takes to wean all of us off of them as soon as possible.
