Picture of the day - January 31, 2008

Winter in Spokane, Washington

A wintry scene from Spokane, Washington.
Photo courtesy of Ron E. Trees.

A few days ago I featured a scene that vividly depicts the massive amount of snow received by the Cascade Mountains each year, but today's picture offers proof that large snowfalls certainly aren't limited to the mountains out in the Pacific Northwest.

Photographer Ron Trees took this picture-postcard style photograph of a beautiful wintry scene not far from his Spokane, Washington home, and the following is his story behind the image:
"We have been having a fair amount of snow in the last few days.
We got about 15 inches in a 24 hour period, leaving us snowbound
for a couple of days with no electricity. It did give some opportunity
to get outside and take some pictures. Here is one I took. It was late
in the day and I thought that the colors and shadows were very nice.
This was taken near Spokane, WA with a Sony A100 equipped with a
    Minolta 50mm f1.7 lens."
