West Virginia Snowfall

Photo courtesy of William E. Pugh, Jr.
For the most part, the terrain of the beautiful state of West
Virginia consists of majestic mountains, scenic valleys and deep
gorges that have been carved by eons of rushing waters. And since it
is indeed The Mountain State, our neighbor to the west has
historically received lots of snow during the winter. But in
recent years those famous West Virginia snowfalls have been few and
far between.
Well, that all changed a couple of days ago as photographer William
E. Pugh, Jr. explains:
"We got about 6" of snow last night. We haven't had a decent
snow in years here in West Virginia. I took this picture this
morning,
and it was still snowing when I snapped the shot. The
hardest thing
was to try and keep the whites from blending into the
paper when
I printed it. The image was captured with my 70-200 f/4L
lens while
sitting in my car."
As you can tell from this wonderful photograph, West Virginia can be
quite beautiful while covered with a blanket of snow. Perhaps her
mountains and valleys will get a lot more of it now that the
"drought" is over - and hopefully Mr. Pugh will have his camera
ready and waiting to take plenty of pictures for us all to enjoy!
