Picture of the Day - October 2, 2009

"Bee on a yellow flower"

Close-up photograph of a honeybee on a bright yellow flower.

Photographs are snapshots in time that capture our world as it is, but with the help of an active imagination and a tweak or two in Photoshop they can also capture it as we would like it to be. Likewise, some images tell a compelling story, while others simply brighten our day with the simple beauty that can be found most anywhere we choose to look on this amazing planet that the Creator has entrusted to our care.

Today's picture by photographer Enrico Nunziati is really pretty simple in concept, yet it is quite effective at demonstrating the natural beauty of our world and the life that abounds upon it. It features a close-up view of a honeybee busily doing what honeybees do: gathering nectar from a beautiful yellow flower.

Sometimes the most simple of images can be the most powerful storytellers of all, and this one should remind each and every one of us that all life on earth is dependent upon a chain of events taking place - and when a link in that chain is broken, something has to give. Without flowers there would be no honeybees, and without honeybees many of God's other creatures would eventually fade into extinction due to lack of nourishment.

We humans have inherited an amazing world, and in this photograph Mr. Nunziati has managed to expertly capture a tiny, but mighty important slice of its wonder and beauty.

Enrico, thank you for sharing this beautiful moment in time with us. What a way to start the day. I always enjoy watching bees work. The bees and the flowers they visit are extra beautiful when they are viewed together but there is just something extraordinary about a bee on a yellow flower.
