"Heaven from the Parkway"
|Photo and narrative by Kathy Beach.
I live very close to the Great Smoky Mountains and I visit them
every chance I get. I went today after the rain passed and enjoyed a
wonderful afternoon watching the mists move in and out of the hills.
I just kept watching the skies as the clouds hung low and hugged the
mountains. I knew the sunset would be beautiful so I came home by
way of the Foothills Parkway to get a birds eye view.
As I came to the last scenic pull-off facing Maryville I parked and
got out. There were a few people there already. As I stepped on to
the sidewalk I looked out over what should have been the lights of
the town. The clouds were there instead and I felt like I was
floating in them. All I could say was "WOW"! It was awesome! Two
songs ran through my mind as I thanked God for putting me there at
that very moment: "How Great Thou Art" and "Heaven Came Down".
I stood there happily clicking away with my camera until the light
disappeared, knowing that one day I will never have to watch another
sunset because I will be with God and His light will shine forever.
